South Sound photographers have until June 30 to snap what they think might be the winning image in the eighth annual National Park Service’s National Natural Landmarks photo contest.
The winning photographs this year will be featured in the 50th Anniversary Commemorative National Natural Landmarks calendar.
There are nearly 600 national natural landmark sites “that exemplify our country’s rich and diverse biological and geological heritage,” said a Park Service news release.
The landmarks in the Puget Sound area include Mima Mounds and Nisqually River delta. Other include the Gingko Petrified Forest, Point of Arches and Grand Coulee.
Each photographer can submit up to three entries, but each photograph must be from a different national natural landmark. Images of the 13 sites featured in the 2011 calendar will not be accepted. Those winning photos can be viewed here.
