South Sound salmon fishing seasons posted

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has started posting the fishing seasons that were approved last week at the meeting of the Pacific Fishery Management Council.

Here is the basic information for the seasons in the three areas of the South Sound. Note that there are some special closure regulations that are detailed in the rules pamphlet:

Marine Area 11 (Tacoma-Vashon)
June 1-June 30: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2 (combined). Release wild Chinook.
July 1-Sept. 30: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2 (combined) plus 2 additional Pink salmon. Release wild Chinook.
Oct. 1-Oct. 31: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2 (combined).
Nov. 1-Dec. 31: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2 (combined). Only 1 Chinook may be retained.
Feb. 1-Apr. 30: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2. Release wild Chinook.

Marine Area 12 (Hood Canal)
South of Ayock Point
July 1-Oct. 15: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 4 (combined). Up to 2 Chinook may be retained. Release Chum.
North of Ayock Point
Sept. 1-Oct. 15: No minimum size. Daily limit 4 Coho only.
Entire area
Oct. 16-Dec. 31: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 4 (combined). Only 1 Chinook may be retained.
Feb. 1-Apr. 30: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2. Release wild Chinook.
Hoodsport Hatchery Zone
July 1-Dec. 31: No minimum size. Daily limit 4 (combined). Up to 2 Chinook 24″ or longer may be retained. Night closure. July 1-Oct. 15: release Chum. Please respect private property adjacent to hatchery.
Quilcene/Dabob Bay Fishery
Aug. 16-Oct. 15: No minimum size. Daily limit 4 Coho only.

Marine Area 13 (South Sound)
May 1-June 30: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2 (combined). Release wild Chinook.
July 1-Sept. 30: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2 (combined). Release wild Chinook and wild Coho.
Oct. 1-Oct. 31: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2 (combined). Release wild Coho.
Nov. 1-Dec. 31 Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 2 (combined). Only 1 Chinook may be retained.
Jan. 1-Apr. 30: Chinook – minimum size 22 inches. Other Salmon species – no minimum size. Daily limit 1.
