The new year offers some good news for fly anglers in the South Sound.

The staff at Gig Harbor Fly Shop will hold some demonstrations, and is offering free coffee and snacks when they open today at their new location.

Meanwhile, Tacoma again has a fly shop now that Puget Sound Fly Co. has moved to town. T-town has been without a fly shop since the Morning Hatch closed in 2007.

The Gig Harbor shop will open at 10 a.m. at 3115 Harborview Dr., just across the street from their old location.

At 1 p.m. there will be a free fly tying demonstration on tying steelhead flies.

At 2 p.m., there will be a free seminar on fly fishing for winter blackmouth.

The shop will be open seven days a week: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and noon-6 p.m. Sundays.

Puget Sound Fly Co. has opened in Tacoma after eight years in Kent.

The shop is located just south of the 56th Street exit from Interstate 5, on Tacoma Mall Boulevard in the Prosser Piano Plaza. The address is 6001 Tacoma Mall Blvd., Suite B2, Tacoma.

The shop can be reached at 253-472-2420.
