While the arctic blast that blanketed the South Sound with snow yesterday might be frustrating for some, it couldn’t be a more welcome site for skiers and snowboarders.

The first installment of the La Nina winter has the ski season inching closer to full operation around Washington.

The Summit at Snoqualmie will open Summit West on Thursday. The ski area will remain open through Sunday then close Monday and Tuesday.

White Pass is set to open Saturday and Crystal Mountain reopens Thursday after a three-day closure.

Mt. Baker is open and Mission Ridge, near Wenatchee, plans to open Friday.

49 Degrees North near Chewelah plans to open Thursday and Mount Spokane plans to open today.

According to its website, Stevens Pass will not open this weekend.
