If the road is open, there should be some good snow for skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing at Paradise this weekend.
Uwe Nehring, acting chief ranger at Mount Rainier National Park, said crews worked hard to plow the snow so they could get the road from Longmire to Paradise open earlier today.
With nearly 50 inches of snow on the ground, Nehring said “skiing and snowshoeing activities should be good when we get the road open.”
The groomed snowplay area at Paradise is not expected to open until Dec. 19. Park officials do now want to open the area until there is at least 5 feet of snow on the ground, to protect the vegetation in the area.
