Two-time Olympic speedskating bronze medalist J.R. Celski climbed Mount Rainier for the first time Saturday morning and as coincidence would have it he ran into George Dunn on the summit. Dunn was reaching the summit for the 500th time, a record.

Here’s a photo of Celski and Dunn on the summit courtesy of Bruce Tschider, Celski’s uncle. Tschider was summiting for the 11th time and Celski’s cousin Michaela Holmberg went along for summit No. 1. Former Rainier Mountaineering Inc. guide Jeff Hanson (128 summits) and his friend, Kara Koetje, was also part of Celski’s climbing party.

“J.R. reported that speed skating is great training for climbing Rainier,” Tschider said via e-mail. “He was, as expected, very strong on the mountain.”
