More than 200 runners and walkers are expected to turn out for the Rainier to Ruston Relay and Ultra Marathon on Saturday.
The 50-mile race from Mount Rainier National Park’s Carbon River entrance to Ruston Way is staged each year on National Trail Day to raise funds to finish the Foothills Trail, which will cover the same route.
Participants in the event can walk 27 miles to Orting, run the entire distance or form teams and split the course into shorter legs.
The longest section of the popular paved Foothills Trail currently runs almost 15 miles from Puyallup to South Prairie. In total, 21 of the 50 miles are complete.
Race entries are due Wednesday. For more information visit rainiertoruston.com
