Starting today, the Lower Lake Cushman/Kokanee boat launch in Mason County will be closed for three or four weeks while the lake is lowered for maintenance on Cushman Dam.
The launch is owned by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife. The agency made the decision to close the ramp after hearing from Tacoma Power and Light that the lake would be lowered by at least 20 feet for the maintenance work.
“That will leave the boat ramp high and dry,” Steve Sherlock, the department’s statewide access site coordinator, said in a news release. “It will be both impractical and unsafe to launch a boat there until the water level comes back up.”
The boat ramp provides access Lower Cushman Lake, where anglers fish for trout, bass and kokanee.
The ramp is located on Lower Lake Road, about 3.8 miles off Lake Cushman Road.
