The Tahoma Audubon Society is holding an intermediate birding course beginning Feb. 1 at the Tacoma Nature Center.

Fred Matthaei will be teaching this new class. He brings a wealth of knowledge about local birds as well as years of experience birding in the area.

The course is designed for the graduates of the chapter’s beginning birding and basic birding classes. Matthaei will be building on what participants have already learned, as well as introducing students to more birding areas during field trips, and heightening bird identification skills. This course is also for avid backyard birders who wish to expand their scope of knowledge and veteran birders who are new to this area and want to learn which birds live here.

It will meet 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays from Feb. 1 through Feb. 22 at the center, 1919 S. Tyler St., Tacoma.

Cost is $50 for members of Tahoma Audubon Society and $65 for nonmembers. Membership may be added to your registration for $20 and will give you discounts on this and future classes for one year.

To sign up, register at the center by calling 253-591-6439.
