Got this e-mail this morning from John Mohan of Mohan ski school. Be happy if you weren’t skiing at the Summit last night.
Last night we had to wait over an hour to be escorted off the Pass by a State Trooper. We drove west down the “east bound” side of the freeway — a new experience for me. And I have been driving the Pass since 1957. I think we were the second group to escorted off after waiting more than a hour. At first we were told the Pass was going to be closed for the night and we would have to find lodging or wait in our cars like many of the truckers.
I think it is funny that we are postponing the meeting because of too much snow. It was so deep that we had to walk down some spots on Alpine Bowl and any place it wasn’t groomed on Holiday. And the walking was a workout. I hate exercise without some related fear or excitement. The grooming was sadly lacking. The groomers couldn’t keep up with the snowfall. There are a few places where the chairlifts are quite close to the snowpack.
In all, I think we will have a long wonderful ski season, possibly skiing into May. But tonight we will pass. We will let others fight the roads. We will enjoy an evening in town instead.
