While the vast majority of our online audience comes from Puget Sound, sometimes individual stories on our website take on a life of their own and attract a much wider audience, especially when they are linked to by a big aggregator like Yahoo, Fark or MSN.
So while it may seem surprising that the two most clicked stories of 2011 on Pierce County’s leading news site had to do with a drought in California, we have a one-word explanation: Drudge. For some reason, The Drudge Report linked to our versions of Associated Press items and attracted hundreds of thousands of readers to our site. Another bit of click-candy was this 2009 piece about a Gig Harbor youth who advocated pot legalization. The two-year-old story found a new life through the social curation site stumbleupon.
So given that context, I give you the 10 most popular tnt.com stories of the year.
